Digital signatures with the Auðkenni App
Auðkenni's mobile app places an Icelandic digital identity on an internet-connected device. It supports identifying yourself and signing documents online, bringing the identity approval into the app when a service requests it. An existing Auðkenni app identity can therefore be used for the qualified electronic signature (QES) method supported in Nota Sign.

Register your digital identity
Auðkenni offers self-registration to people over 18 who have an Icelandic passport and an NFC-capable smart device. The provider says this registration route can be used from abroad. A registration authority offers another way to establish the identity, with locations across Iceland.
For registration in person, Auðkenni requires a valid personal identity document of an accepted type. Check the provider's requirements for the route you will use before starting. Establishing the app identity is a separate preparation step from receiving a document-signing request.
Keep the app ready for approval
Have an active Auðkenni identity and an internet connection on the device running the app. Keep the app updated and retain access to the identity you intend to use. The official Auðkenni website provides registration options, accepted identity-document guidance and assistance for existing users.
Authorize the Nota Sign document
Open your Nota Sign signing request, read the document and fill in the required fields. Continue with Auðkenni and follow the identity and signing request presented in the journey. Respond to the corresponding approval request in the Auðkenni App, then complete the document workflow in Nota Sign. The app supplies the approval associated with your digital identity, while the signed document remains part of the Nota Sign transaction.
