Use the signing function of a Belgian eID
The Belgian eID combines a government-issued identity document with electronic functions provided through a chip. Its digital uses include identity authentication and document signing. In Nota Sign, the supported Belgian ID Card method brings the card's qualified electronic signature (QES) capability into a document-signing request.
Electronic identification and signing serve different purposes. Identification establishes who is taking part in the transaction; a signature records that person's approval of the document. Read the document before authorizing its signature, even when you have already used the card to identify yourself.
Check the card type and signing credentials
Use an eID with the signing function and the credentials required for that function. Possession of a Belgian identity document alone does not establish that it can sign. The Belgian system includes different card versions, including a version for foreign residents and Kids-ID for children. The Kids-ID version described in the method documentation does not provide document signing.
Before beginning, confirm that your card is suitable for the requested signing operation and that you can use its signing credentials. Follow the card issuer's instructions for the equipment and setup relevant to your card. This preparation belongs to the eID itself and is distinct from filling in the document.
Approve your document in Nota Sign
Open the Nota Sign request and review the document, including the fields you must complete. Continue with the configured Belgian ID Card method and carry out the requested card authentication and signature authorization. Then complete the document workflow in Nota Sign. The eID supplies the personal identity and certificate-based signing capability used for this approval.
