Chave Móvel Digital for personal document signing
Chave Móvel Digital (CMD) links a person's identity document with their mobile number to support access to Portuguese online services and electronic document signing. It is a personal identity: Portugal's government allows both Portuguese and foreign citizens to activate CMD, with the registration route depending on their identity document. It is not an electronic seal issued to a company.
Prepare CMD before signing
An active CMD and access to its registered mobile number are important prerequisites. Holders of a Portuguese Citizen Card can request activation online, by video call or at a service counter. People using other eligible identity documents follow the applicable in-person registration route. CMD's digital-signature function also has its own activation service, so having used CMD to log in should not be confused with being ready to sign a document.
Sign with CMD in Nota Sign
Nota Sign supports Chave Móvel Digital identity authentication and qualified electronic signatures (QES). The signing request starts with the document in Nota Sign; CMD supplies the identity and authorisation step for the signature.
- Open the Nota Sign request and review the document and required fields.
- Continue with Chave Móvel Digital and follow the mobile-identity instructions.
- Use your CMD credentials and complete the signing confirmation presented for that request.
- Return to Nota Sign to finish the document-signing journey.
The CMD credential identifies the individual approving the document, including when that individual signs in a business context. For the current identity-document requirements and activation options, use the Portuguese government's CMD service information.
