Latvian ID Card

Equipped with a secure chip, the ID card enables strong electronic authentication and supports the creation of Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES).

The electronic functions of a Latvian ID card

The Latvian identity card, or Personas apliecība, is issued through Latvia's Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs. For citizens and eligible residents, it serves as an identity document and also carries a secure chip for electronic use.

The card's digital functions support authentication and qualified electronic signatures (QES). These functions make the card useful beyond presenting a physical document: its holder can identify themselves to online services and approve documents electronically. Authentication and signature creation remain different actions, even when they use the same card.

Prepare for card-based signing

Have your own Latvian ID card ready with its electronic signing functions available. The credential used for the signature is associated with the card's digital capability; simply holding a physical identity document is not the document-approval step.

This is the Latvian ID Card method in Nota Sign. eParaksts Mobile is a separate app-based route, so the preparation for one method should not be assumed to cover the other. For official information on the card and related identity-document services, start with the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs.

Use the card method in Nota Sign

Nota Sign supports signing with the Latvian ID card. Read the document, complete your assigned fields and proceed with Latvian ID Card as the configured signing method. Follow the requested card authorisation for that document.

Complete the remaining steps in Nota Sign and check that signing has finished. The card provides the identity and signing credential, while Nota Sign carries the document review and completion process. A successful online identification by itself is not confirmation that you have finished signing the document.
