Digital certificates in Lithuania's identity card

Lithuania's Asmens tapatybės kortelė is issued by the Migration Department under the Ministry of the Interior. Its embedded chip holds personal data and digital certificates, bringing electronic functions to the national identity document.

The card supports electronic identification and qualified electronic signatures (QES). It is used with state and commercial services, where identifying the holder and approving a document are separate tasks. The digital certificate gives the card a signing role beyond its use as a physical identity document.

Choose the physical-card route

Prepare your own Lithuanian ID card for electronic signing before starting the document workflow. You need access to its digital functions for the requested approval; the printed identity details alone do not perform the signature operation.

Lithuania also has Mobile-ID and LT ID methods. They use mobile credentials or an application, whereas this entry concerns the credential carried on the ID card. Knowing which method you will use helps you prepare the matching identity tool. The Migration Department's official website is the source for current identity-document information.

Apply the signature in Nota Sign

Nota Sign supports the Lithuanian ID card signing method. Review the document's terms and complete the fields addressed to you. Continue with Lithuanian ID card as the configured CA method and follow the requested authorisation using the card's electronic functions.

Finish the document workflow in Nota Sign, then check its completion state. The card supplies the identity-linked signing credential; the document being approved and the remaining signing actions stay in Nota Sign. Using the card successfully for access to another online service does not replace approval of this particular document.
