The Citizen Card's digital functions
Portugal's Cartão de Cidadão is the national identity card with electronic credentials for online services. The Portuguese state's Autenticação.gov service describes both authentication and digital document signing with the card. These functions let the holder use their identity in an online transaction and approve a document through the corresponding signing function.
The distinction matters when a service asks you to sign: access to an online account demonstrates identity, while a digital signature records approval of the document. Nota Sign supports the Cartão de Cidadão method within its document-signing workflow.
Prepare the card-based method
Have your Cartão de Cidadão available and check the official guidance for using its electronic functions before starting the request. Follow the preparation and authorization requirements for the card method presented to you. Completing a separate online identity check does not replace the document's signing authorization.
Autenticação.gov also offers Chave Móvel Digital, a mobile credential with its own activation process. Its website's browser-based PDF signer is specifically described as using Chave Móvel Digital. Keep that mobile procedure separate when preparing a request that names Cartão de Cidadão. You can find the state's credential information on the Autenticação.gov website.
Apply the signature in Nota Sign
Start with the document in Nota Sign and review all the information you are approving. Complete the required fields, then continue with Portuguese Cartão de Cidadão as the configured method. Complete the card-related identity and signature authorization requested in the journey.
Finish the signing process in Nota Sign and check the completed document. The Citizen Card supplies the electronic identity and signing capability for this method; Nota Sign brings those digital signatures into the document request you received.
